Dr. Adrienne Burk convened an amazing conference last month on behalf of the Institute for the Humanities at Simon Fraser University, and I was lucky enough to get a chance to speak on one of the panels. The conference was called Witnessing the World: New Possibilities for Citizenship and Social Change, and while it was an intimate group, there was a wide range of speakers. The day ranged from discussions about the ancient Greeks’ definitions of witnessing all the way to multimedia presentations about citizen journalism as a tool and technique for progressive social change – some day, I’m going to write more about these presentations but the honest truth is that the ideas presented were so complex that I’m still wrapping my head around them.
I like well made advocacy videos - and the one that British Red Cross released today definitely falls into this category. It features Konnie Huq, a well know and very sexy tv-presenter (well known in the UK). The question is: “Would you still want to kiss her, if she was HIV positive?”
The reason this video was made is a survey that British Red Cross commissioned of 16-25-year-olds in the UK. The result:
Even though 85 per cent know you cannot catch HIV from a kiss, 69 per cent of respondents said they wouldn’t kiss someone with HIV.
Or as British Red Cross puts it: “There is safety. And then there is stigma.”
Desktop Wallpaper. It isn’t fair, but buying a computer is just plain easier for some than it is for others. Those who’ve purchased and used a computer in the past already have an idea of what they need in a new computer. But those who are new to the computer world could get lost in the myriad of choices available.
Exotic Pets. Pets are normal parts of people’s lives; it isn’t at all unusual for a person to have a dog, a cat, a bird, a fish, or even a frog at home. However, some people aren’t content with just having these common domesticated animals as pets.
Some want to have more exciting companions at home, and thus, there are people who choose to have an exotic pet instead. While having an exotic pet can be quite rewarding, choosing the best exotic pet for you can be very confusing.
Exotic pet is an animal kept as a pet which is not commonly thought of as a pet. Another definition of exotic pet is a rare or unusual animal kept as a pet.
Native American Music. The music of the Native American Indians consists mostly of songs and dances. They have songs for games, children, love, work and social dancing. But most of their music is associated with some kind of religious activity.
RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES
Before 1900 the Plains Indians performed the ghost dance. It was supposed to drive away the hated white men and help the Native Americans get back their land and buffalo. It consisted mainly of singing and dancing. Although the Native Americans do not do the ghost dance anymore, they still sing the songs.
Home Improvement. Everyone should be his or her own handyman or handywoman, for that matter. If you have enough time on your hand, why not learn the skills to fix that table or to change the wallpaper instead of hiring someone to do it, right? It won’t only save you hard-earned bucks but will also give you that sense of fulfillment that you know you’ve been longing for for quite some time now.
Here are a few home touchup tips that you can master in as little time as possible.
1. Don’t get out the paintbrush when Mr. Mighty Sun is not out.
Health Tips. Essential Oils are the basis of Aromatherapy treatment to diseases in a patient. Essential Oils are used to alter or enhance emotional state of mind to achieve goals. The connection of mind with body is a powerful force and Essential Oils are used to make use of this force in their way to providing treatment to a patient.
Hallo, my name is Luc Yuschak… This is my testimony on Tinnitus Miracle. “Dear Thomas, your program is by far the most valuable treatment for Tinnitus that I ever encountered. Being a 10 year Tinnitus sufferer, I finally was able to control and gradually eliminate my tinnitus in what seems to be nothing short of a miracle. Your clear and easy to follow step by step plan along with your invaluable personal guidance has restored my life back to normal. My therapist and a member of the American Tinnitus Association who is also a close friend of mine have recommended your guide and I am so glad they did. I am now able to work, sleep and function as a human being. I feel relaxed, energized and optimistic. How can I thank you? There are no words to express my gratitude.
When we kicked off the WeAreMedia, A Social Media Starter Kit for Nonprofits 18 months ago, we included two areas about content creation. There was a strategy module that shared best practices in storytelling and a tactical module called “Tell…
Photo by Borman818 I usually don’t write end of year roundups until those quiet last days of the year, but if Leave09Behind gets legs, that might be next week! But I’m a member of the Social Media Advisory Board for…
